Skin Care Tips

Your Key to Beautiful Skin

A Guinot-appointed spa, Advanced Beauty Care wants to help you keep your skin healthy and younger looking with these skin care tips:

Advanced Firming Facial

Advacned Firming Facial With more than 40 years experience in beauty treatments and a passion for healthy skin, Guinot is the world leader in skin care. Based on this heritage, Sarah and Karey York of Guinot USA have developed a new beauty treatment especially for clients of Advanced Beauty Care.

The new Advanced Firming Facial relaxes your features, smoothes away fine lines, and creates a luminous glow to your complexion. If you participate in the Guinot Youth Recovery Program or if your skin needs a boost prior to a special occasion, this treatment is for you.

It is comprised of:

  • The revolutionary Guinot Hyrda-Lift treatment lifts and tones your face with a gentle micro-current to soften fine lines and visibly restore a healthy glow.
  • The vitamin C rich Guinot Liftosome mask energizes, tightens, and firms your skin with soy extract to stimulate synthesis of collagen fibers, horsetail extract to help restructure the elastic fibers, and Liftiline to begin the tightening effect, leaving your skin feeling firmer and plumper.
  • A warm lifting massage leaves your skin happy and relaxed.

Indulge yourself with this exclusive one-hour treatment for only $195.

Summer and Your Skin

Summer and Your Skin The summer, with exposure to the sun or chlorinated pool water, can take a toll on your skin. To continue to look your best, be sure to leverage Guinot beauty products for at-home skincare. With Guinot’s wide range of beauty products, you can easily cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate, and moisturize, even on a busy summer schedule.

To cleanse your skin, begin by using Guinot Hydra Tendre Cleansing Cream rich in coconut extracts. It deeply cleanses your skin, yet does not strip it of its natural protection. Follow by gently exfoliating your skin with the unique Guinot Gommage Biologique. Packed with AHAs derived from sugar cane, lemon, and orange as well as the soothing effect of green tea, Guinot Gommage Biologique is perfect even for the most sensitive skin. And, do not forget to exfoliate: 3 times a week for dry skin, twice a week of normal skin, and once a week for oily skin.

Next, apply the new Guinot Masque Nouvel Eclat, a hydrating and exfoliating mask with cranberries and lemons to remove any dry patches or flaky skin. To add hydration to your skin without heaviness, finish with the water-based Guinot Creme Hydra Beauté. Finally, don’t forget to apply Guinot Hydrazone Yeux for intense hydration around your delicate eye area.

Guinot – The Undisputed Beauty Leader

Guinot – The Undisputed Leader Guinot is the undisputed leader in professional beauty products. With more than 50 percent of the market in France, the group is truly partners with beauty therapists and focuses on creating beauty treatments for the well-being of women internationally.

During my recent visit to the Guinot offices and training centers in Paris, I had the opportunity to meet with Joelle Salvador-Simi, the international trainer for Guinot, and took an extensive tour of their prestigious facilities located at the Place Vendome.

Guinot – An International Brand Working to Enhance Women’s Beauty

Dr. Jean-Daniel Mondin, Guinot president, is a doctor of pharmacy and has an extensive family history of medicine. His father was the first reconstructive plastic surgeon in Paris. As his "silent partner," Mondin began to develop formulas to help regenerate and heal the skin and redefined "cosmetics" through his own vision. He also advocated "prescription cosmetics" and defined the role of the beauty therapist as the "expert" that customizes salon treatments and home-care for the unique needs of each client.

To help achieve his vision, Mondin continually ensures that Guinot maintains an extremely high standard of manufacturing: traceability, purity, and regularity are as key in making Guinot products as they are in manufacturing pharmaceuticals. One of Guinot’s most recent products, Acnilogic Serum, a topical treatment to assist acne-prone skin, was recently awarded a PP Visa, due to its exceptional precise pharmaceutical qualities.

A True Vision of "Professional Beauty"

Guinot Salon in Paris The close collaboration between Salvador-Simi, Mondin, the Guinot the team, and beauty professionals enables you to get exclusive, customized beauty therapy treatments. I am very proud to be a part of this team and to share Guinot’s true vision of professional beauty with you.

Interesting facts:

  • There are 11,000 Guinot beauty salons located across 70 countries
  • There are 1,680 accredited Guinot beauty salons in France
  • Guinot manufactures 27,000,000 products annually
  • There are 5-7 ingredients in a pharmaceutical product; in a cosmetic product, there are more than 20-100 components
  • Longue Vie Cellulaire nutritional complex was developed in collaboration with a burns victim unit in 1986

Beat the Winter Skin Blues: A Do-It-Yourself Guinot Facial for Dehydrated Winter Skin

Sometimes winter weather takes a toll on your skin, leaving it dry, flaky, sensitive, and irritated. When you can’t get to the spa or in between facials, a homecare facial is a great way to keep your skin healthy when the mercury falls.

Winter Facial Prescription

To maintain flake-free skin during the winter, opt for Guinot Hydra Tendre gentle cleansing cream. The coconut extracts not only cleanse, but also neutralize the effects of hard water on the skin. Remember not to wash your face with hot water, as it dehydrates the surface layers of the skin.

... Be sure to exfoliate to remove dead cells and maintain your skin’s hydration ...

Be sure to exfoliate to remove dead cells and maintain your skin’s hydration. Layers of dead cells asphyxiate the skin and leave it dehydrated. Use Guinot Gommage Biologique twice a week. The gentle AHAs – including sugar cane, lemon and orange – lightly exfoliate your skin and hydrate it, while green tea protects and nourishes, making this exfoliant perfect for all skin types, including the most sensitive.

Follow up with Guinot Masque Essential to replenish moisture and soothe wind and cold irritated skin. Try Guinot Masque Yeux to hydrate and refresh your eye area. Both masks may be left on your skin for 15 minutes and then removed with dampened cotton pads.

Finish with an application of Guinot Serum Nutri-Neuve Confort for very dry/dehydrated skin followed by Guinot Crème Nutri-Confort to seal and retain moisture in your skin.

What could be better for the eye area during the cold weather than Guinot Hydrazone Yeux? Liposomes deliver moisture into your delicate eye area and horse chestnut extract reduces puffiness, making it the perfect all-in-one eye cream for this time of year.

A Healthy Diet for Healthy Skin

Eat a balanced diet to ensure healthy skin. Any deficiency in nutrients is quickly usually visible on the face, so a well-balanced diet is essential to beautiful-looking skin. According to leading nutritionists, you should eat a well-balanced diet containing food from the four major food groups:

  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Fish, meat, and eggs
  • Dairy products
  • Starches (grains and bread)

Limit your alcohol and caffeine consumption and be sure to drink at least eight glasses of water a day to help eliminate toxins and maintain a bright, radiant complexion. Your skin will thank you for eating right.

Safe Tanning

... The only safe tan is a tan that does not come from the sun ...

The only safe tan is a tan that does not come from the sun. Sunlight has a profound effect on your skin – it can cause premature skin aging, skin cancer, and a host of other changes. According to recent research, exposure to UVA or UVB rays from sunlight accounts for 90 percent of the symptoms of premature skin aging, and many skin changes that were commonly believed to be due to aging, such as easy bruising, are actually a result of prolonged exposure to UV radiation.

By applying a self-tanner you can lift your spirits and maintain a healthy glow without the damaging rays of the sun. To reveal beautiful, tanned legs at the beginning of summer, arrive at the beach already tanned, or avoid excess sun exposure during pregnancy, apply Guinot Auto Bronze at home when your skin is smooth and hydrated. For even better results, visit Advanced Beauty Care for a Body Polish or Auto-Bronzant treatment.

Holistic Aging – Part 1

Treat Your Skin Right

Skin care goes beyond the face and neck. When we are born, our complexion is bright and clear. As we grow and expose ourselves to the world, these effects change the appearance and function of our skin. Over the years, our diet, travel and leisure activities, exposure to the sun and harsh environments accumulate. As we reach the age of 35, we begin to see, and often feel, the changes in our overall health.

As we address holistic skin care and our anti-aging treatments, remember that your skin extends beyond your neck. Nurturing all of your skin will help you achieve a youthful appearance. Also, be aware that what you do today will be rewarded in the next decade.

Essential for life and health, the skin is our biggest organ. With two layers, the epidermis and the dermis, it is a mirror of our inner health and wellness. The skin’s main functions are:

  • Protection
  • Regulation
  • Sensation
  • Secretion

In our modern world and with our thirst for perfection, the outer layer, the epidermis, is being abused on a daily basis via over exfoliating, irritation from chemical and physical peels, and hyper-pigmentation from over sun exposure.

... stay faithful to the holistic approach to beauty therapy ...

As a beauty professional, I am exposed to many new trends in skin care, and most seem to stress the skin unnecessarily. As I examine the skin, I can see the damage they cause, and therefore stay faithful to the holistic approach to beauty therapy that provides long-term benefits and dependable results.

The essential treatments to maintain healthy radiant skin are:

  • Gentle exfoliation, twice a week, no more
  • Hydration, applying a suitable moisturizer twice a day
  • Protection from harmful and aging UVA and UVB rays

In part 2 of this article, we will discuss the value of nutrition and salon treatments.

Holistic Aging – Part 2

Nutrition and Aging – You Are What You Eat

By taking care of your skin and body, you can easily enjoy a life full of great health and good looks. The body needs essential nutrients on a daily basis so that it can heal and repair itself. Choosing foods that provide all the essential vitamins and minerals is a key in our battle against aging.

... By taking care of your skin and body, you can easily enjoy a life full of great health and good looks ...

The latest trend in nutrition is Omega-3s and essential fatty acids from flaxseed and fish oils, which reduce the inflammatory response associated with aging. These nutrients are certainly necessary, but the following are some things you can do (and not do) that will equally protect your skin and health:

10 Skin Care Dos

  • Think of your health daily and find new ways to take care of yourself.
  • Purchase sun protective clothing for outdoor activities.
  • Apply sunscreen with marine DNA and essential UVA & UVB filters.
  • Enjoy rejuvenating facials once a month.
  • Indulge in an aromatherapy or seaweed bath at the end of the day.
  • Exercise regularly: Pilates or yoga incorporate breathing techniques and reduce stress.
  • Cleanse and tone twice a day.
  • Apply a nourishing serum and moisturizer.
  • Sleep on your back to avoid squashing your face.
  • Apply a body lotion or firming cream daily.

Avoid the sun to maintain healthy skin.10 Skin Care Don’ts

  • Don’t go out in the sun between 10AM and 4PM when it is at its strongest.
  • Never leave home without a hat or scarf for extra protection.
  • Give up or avoid smoking.
  • Avoid tanning beds. They can be seven times stronger than the sun.
  • Don’t eat junk food or fried foods.
  • Limit sugar, salt and highly processed foods.
  • Avoid wearing perfume in the sun.
  • Never use soap, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid or retinoic acid as these weaken the skins natural defenses.
  • Refrain from picking or scratching the skin.
  • Keep it simple – less is more.
